The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences revealed its list of nominees for this year’s Academy Awards, commonly known as the Oscars.

“Sinners,” the Ryan Coogler-directed vampire film set in early-20th-century Mississippi, made history with a record-breaking 16 Academy Award nominations. The most nominations any film had ever received before this was 14.

The nominations for “Sinners” include best director for Coogler, actor in a leading role for Michael B. Jordan, actress in a supporting role for Wunmi Mosaku and actor in a supporting role for Delroy Lindo. The movie was also nominated in various musical and technical categories. Jordan, Mosaku and Lindo are first-time Oscar nominees. 

Other notable nominees include actress-singer-choreographer Teyana Taylor, who notched her first nomination for actress in a supporting role for “One Battle After Another;” “KPop Demon Hunters,” which is nominated for best animated feature; Chloe Zhao for best director for “Hamnet;” Geeta Gandbhir, who is nominated in both the documentary feature and documentary short categories; Wagner Moura, nominated for leading actor in “The Secret Agent;” and Benicio del Toro, for actor in a supporting role in “One Battle After Another.” 

This year’s Academy Awards ceremony will be March 15 at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
