Benita Bratton poses for a portrait inside her restaurant, Gram’s Barbecue, in Riverside, California, on October 10, 2025. The restaurant was started by her father in 1987 as he sought to give back to his community and create a second chance for himself.

Gram’s Barbecue, a restaurant in Riverside, California, has been a staple in the community for over three decades, founded by a man who turned his life around after serving time in prison and now operated by his daughter, who sees it as a testament to her father’s transformation and a place for second chances.
