About URL Media

URL Media is a network of news & information outlets who serve Black and Brown communities. URL, which shares content and revenues, stands for Uplift, Respect and Love and these are actions we pledge to our audiences, our vendors, our partners, ourselves and, all importantly, our staff.

Responsibilities

Through the lens of Uplift. Respect. Love. — the video producer will cover the news that impacts and resonates with BIPOC communities to be distributed across shortform video platforms where URL has a presence. One week you may produce a roundup video of our partners’ FIFA World Cup coverage; the next you may tell viewers what they need to know about midterms results, or post an interview clip on generational wealth-building.

  • Produce one to three (1-3) original, short-form, social-first videos on news and impact topics with fast turnarounds, often same-day or within 24–48 hours of a story breaking.
  • Source and clear footage from a variety of inputs — wire services, social media, press releases, URL Media partners and original shoots — and build compelling narratives around available assets
  • Edit videos optimized for mobile and muted autoplay, incorporating text overlays, captions, and graphics so the story lands clearly with or without sound
  • Format and resize content for multiple platforms (Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts) with an understanding of how pacing and aspect ratio differ across each
  • Pitch and develop video ideas rooted in social justice, policy, environment, and other high-impact topics that educate and engage audiences of color
  • Distill complex issues into clear, accessible stories in 60–90 seconds without sacrificing nuance or accuracy
  • Collaborate closely with editorial staff to align video output with ongoing coverage priorities and breaking news
  • Pitch editorial content, taking into consideration platform trends, viral formats, and best practices in digital video storytelling to help the organization grow its social audience

What We’re Looking For

  • At least 3 years as a videojournalist or producer for digital or social-first publications, reporting or commentary background a plus
  • An appetite for pitching and coming up with story ideas–particularly those that intersect with issues of diverse communities
  • Demonstrated ability in social-first storytelling and audience-building
