NEW YORK, NY – AUGUST 11, 2025 – Today, URL Media is proud to announce Latina Media Co as the newest member of its network that includes high performing Black and Brown media outlets. Latina Media Co publishes sharp entertainment coverage by Latina and queer Latinx writers. Co-founded in 2018 by Cristina Escobar and Nicola Schultz, Latina Media Co adds an ambitious collection of entertainment analysis to the URL Media network.
“Latina Media Co.’s coverage is simultaneously LOL and steeped in layers of intellect,” said URL Media CEO S. Mitra Kalita. “I am so glad to have these incredible contributions in our content mix. As an outlet focused on representation, I am especially elated that Latina Media Co.’s mission holds our overall industry to account to do better in reflecting demographic and diverse realities.”
Latina, Black, Asian and Indigenous women write just 4% of movie reviews combined despite making up 20% of the population. Latina Media Co set out to change that. Since establishing in 2018, Latina Media Co has featured over 75 writers and reaches 120,000 visitors annually. Escobar helms a digital space where Generation Z and Millennials see their intersecting cultures reflected with nuance and precision.
“We created Latina Media Co to platform Latina and queer Latinx perspectives in media. Partnering with URL Media helps us take that to a new level – growing our reach, making us more sustainable, and creating more opportunities for our underrepresented voices” says Latina Media Co Editor-in-Chief Cristina Escobar. “We are honored to be a part of the URL Media network and so proud of the outlet we’ve built over the last seven years, getting us to this point” she adds.
Latina Media Co expands the URL Media audience amongst Latino communities in Los Angeles, New York, Austin, Puerto Rico and New Mexico.
URL Media launched in 2021 with the goal to build a decentralized, multi-platform network that includes high-performing Black and Brown media organizations. Our members consist of exceptional news outlets representing a diverse mix of culture, format, geography and audience that amplify each other’s content and share revenue as a way to build greater sustainability.
Since its beginning with eight partners, URL Media has tripled its collective audience and significantly increased its revenue. URL Media recently announced the $1.25 million Press Forward Infrastructure grant to expand financial tools available to independent media entrepreneurs.
