President Donald Trump issued an executive order Thursday targeting the Smithsonian Museums, with a mention of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture, The Hill reported.

The order, which is called “Restoring Truth and Sanity to American History,” indicates that it’s meant to reverse what it describes as a concerted and widespread effort to rewrite the nation’s history.

It specifically threatens the funding of any exhibits or institutions that “degrade shared American values, divide Americans based on race, or promote programs or ideologies inconsistent with Federal law and policy.” The Smithsonian museums requested about $1 billion from Congress in a budget request to fund its 21 museums and the National Zoo, according to NBC News.

The order claims that NMAAHC proclaims hard work, individualism and the nuclear family as aspects of white culture. NMAAHC describes itself as a place to learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience and how it shaped the nation. About half of the museum’s budget is from federal appropriations. The rest is from private and institutional donations.

Transgender people are also a target of the Trump executive order. It requires that the not-yet-open Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum “celebrate the achievements of women in the American Women’s History Museum and do not recognize men as women in any respect in the Museum.” The museum is still in development and is not expected to open for several years.

Trump has been vocal about his disdain for diversity, equity and inclusion principles, instructing the federal government to not to consider DEI in operations. He has also ordered universities to stop using the principles in admissions, hiring, coursework and student activities.
