Native Vote 2026

Sealaska, an Alaska Native Regional Corporation representing Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian peoples of Southeast Alaska, has endorsed former U.S. Rep. Mary Peltola for the U.S. Senate, citing her advocacy for Alaska’s fisheries and her record of defending the state’s way of life.

Peltola, a lifelong Alaskan and former commercial fisherman, said the endorsement was particularly meaningful given the challenges facing Alaska’s fishing communities.

“Sealaska understands firsthand the devastating impacts of rising costs and decreasing salmon, halibut and herring runs, which is why it’s a tremendous honor to receive their endorsement,” Peltola said. “I’m very thankful to have them on our side as we fight to fix the rigged system in DC to restore Alaska’s fisheries and lower costs for Alaskans.”

Sealaska said Peltola understands the importance of healthy resources and strong communities to Alaska’s future.

“Mary Peltola understands that thriving communities depend on abundance,” Sealaska said. “Throughout her career, she has worked to sustain the resources, opportunities and ways of life that connect people to place.”

The corporation said Peltola’s leadership reflects its belief that Alaska’s future depends on healthy communities, abundant natural resources and opportunities that can be sustained across generations.

“Sealaska is proud to endorse Mary Peltola for the United States Senate,” the corporation said.

Peltola has continued to emphasize issues important to Southeast Alaska and Alaska Native communities during her Senate campaign. She has toured Southeast Alaska and met with residents about fisheries, housing, health care, public radio, the federal 8(a) program, landless Alaska Native communities and the Alaska Marine Highway System.

If elected to the Senate, Peltola says she will focus on reducing costs for Alaska families, including taxes, groceries, gas, housing and child care. She also has pledged to support higher wages for workers, restore Alaska’s fisheries and strengthen the state’s energy sector through increased oil and gas development.

Peltola has also positioned herself as an advocate for Alaska workers and communities, arguing that federal policies should prioritize Alaska’s interests over special interests in Washington, D.C.

The Sealaska endorsement adds to Peltola’s support among Alaska Native voters and organizations as she seeks a return to Congress and a seat in the U.S. Senate.
