The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs announced Monday that it is accepting applications for $2.4 million in Tribal Tourism Grants aimed at helping Tribal Nations expand tourism visibility and increase visitation to existing tribal tourism destinations.
The funding opportunity will provide grants ranging from $200,000 to $300,000 to 10 tribes or tribal organizations. The grants are intended to support efforts that facilitate, promote, and enhance tourism offerings, helping tribal destinations attract more visitors and strengthen their presence in the tourism industry.
“Tribal tourism offers a powerful opportunity for tribal nations to share their histories, cultures, and traditions while creating jobs and generating sustainable economic growth in their communities,” said Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs Billy Kirkland.
“Consistent with President Trump and Secretary Burgum’s commitment to growing the American economy and supporting locally driven development, these investments will help tribal communities capitalize on their unique cultural and natural assets by strengthening existing tourism operations, attracting more visitors, and expanding the benefits that tourism can bring to tribal communities,” Kirkland said.
According to the Department of the Interior, the grants are designed to strengthen destination positioning, increase visitation, and support tribal participation in the tourism sector. Officials say the investments will contribute to sustainable economic growth while providing broader community benefits.
The Tribal Tourism Grant Program is administered by the Office of Indian Economic Development and supports implementation of the Native American Tourism and Improving Visitor Experience Act, commonly known as the NATIVE Act. The law was enacted to promote Native American tourism and improve visitor experiences across Indian Country by enhancing the ability of Tribal Nations to develop and expand tourism opportunities.
Applications are now being accepted through the Office of Indian Economic Development. The department expects to award grants to 10 recipients as part of the current funding cycle.
Federal officials view tourism as a growing economic development tool for Tribal Nations, offering opportunities to showcase Indigenous cultures, histories, and natural resources while creating jobs and generating revenue for tribal communities.
Proposals must be submitted to grants.gov by August 7, 2026. More information and details on how to apply can be found at https://www.grants.gov/search-results-detail/362968.
