Role: Freelance Writer (Contract)
Location: Remote; anywhere in the U.S.
Pay Range: $1,800 – $2,100/month
Responsibilities
Through the lens of Uplift, Respect and Love, — the freelance writer will cover the politics and entertainment news that impacts and resonates with diverse communities for URL Direct (website and newsletter). One day you may write an opinion piece about the state election, the next a short newsletter of entertainment stories from across our network or an interview with a reporter from our network of high performing media outlets about a recent story. Duties will include:
- Pitch story ideas and angles that are relevant and engaging to our audience
- Leverage our partner content and produce original content to write three top five original stories weekly for URL Direct
- Produce copy for breaking news as necessary
- Adhere to deadlines and manage time effectively to ensure timely delivery of articles.
- Collaborating with editors and other team members to refine and improve articles.
- Develop copy for sponsored content related to URL Direct campaigns.
What We’re Looking For
- At least 3 years as a journalist or writer for print and/or digital publications, reporting or commentary background a plus
- An appetite for pitching and coming up with story ideas–particularly those that intersect with issues of diverse communities
- Experience with SEO best practices
