Former President Barack Obama has revealed his picks for the 2025 March Madness tournament.

His brackets have Duke winning it all for the men, and University of South Carolina for the women, according to a post on Obama.org. A knowledgeable bettor has about a 1 in 120 billion chance of having perfect brackets, according to the NCAA.

The NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s tournaments, known as March Madness, are considered the most important championships in college basketball. The men’s division of the tournament began in 1939. The women’s division began with the 1981-1982 school year.

Obama is famously a big fan of basketball. He played the sport on his high school team at Punahou School in Hawaii, coached his daughters’ childhood teams, has been seen courtside at multiple games, and cultivated relationships with NBA players such as LeBron James. He even played the occasional pickup game while in the White House — although he recently said on a podcast that it’s now been about 10 years since he’s played a serious game. A piece in The New Yorker once claimed that the key to understanding him is through an understanding of the sport!

In the years since he left office, Obama has kept busy with speeches, political power wrangling and releasing lists of books and films that build upon the cultural capital he built while in office.

Publicly, he was most recently seen attending a Los Angeles Clippers basketball game. He also was present for the January 2025 inauguration for President Donald Trump. Former first lady Michelle Obama declined to attend.
